4 SMS Marketing Features That Boast Easy Automation

Now more than ever, marketing automation is all the rage. As business owners, we want to give our customers a personalized experience, but also don’t want to spend hours on end nurturing individual interactions.

That’s why the majority of our SMS Marketing features offer “set it and forget it” functionality.

At the very basic level, every single SMS Marketing campaign can be scheduled to send at a later date. Although this doesn’t allow for permanent automation, it gives you some time in between campaigns to organize your account, and focus on automating features that actually make a long term difference.

Outside of that, here are our four favorite features that offer automation capabilities.

1. Drip Messages
Drip messaging makes automated text messaging so convenient. Set messages for 30 days, 60 days; even 2 years out. We don’t recommend relying on drip messaging alone as the basis for your SMS Marketing strategy, but we do recommend using this feature as a way to consistently offer small, automated rewards. Maybe every 30 days you send out a message that looks like:

You’ve been a VIP for 30 days now! We’d like to reward you with this special mobile coupon for $5 off your next order of $50 or more: slkt.io/6hg

2. Birthday Rewards
Send out an extra special reward once a year using our birthday feature. When a subscriber opts in for the first time, we simply ask them for their birthday, and then keep this data in our system. You set the reward message, and this is the same thing your subscriber will see on their birthday.

A great birthday reward might look like:

Happy birthday from Kenny’s Cafe! Stop down within the next 5 days, show this text & get 1 cup of Joe with the purchase of any pastry.

As far as setup, here’s what configuring your birthday texts feature looks like in your dashboard. To make these changes, go to your textword settings, click Birthday Texts on the right, switch it on, and start setting this up.

3. Text to Win Contests
Text to win contests are definitely an oldie but a goodie. This is one of the first features we ever introduced to our platform, but wow … does it perform. Similar to birthday texts, it requires some basic initial setup, but after that, you’re good to go.

What’s the purpose of a text to win contest? That’s definitely two fold.

First, it’s a great list growth strategy. If the grand prize is appealing enough, new subscribers will opt in just to enter, and the bonus? From that point on, they’re permanently on your list. Outside of list growth, text to win contests also help keep current subscribers engaged. As long as you keep your prize or instant win incentive irresistible, you’ll always see great results with this feature.

4. Dynamic Expiration Date
This feature will just make your life so much easier. Say you want to run an ongoing promotion. Let’s just pretend it’s a $5 off coupon. But, you don’t want to leave the redemption period open ended. This is where a dynamic expiration date comes in.

First, decide on your ideal window of redemption. Is it 3 days? 7 days? Once you’ve got that set in stone, you can insert {EXP7} into any outbound campaign. This will then automatically replace this placeholder with the applicable date.

For example, today is the 29th of January. Instead of saying “This offer expires on {EXP7}”, the message would say: “This offer expires on 2/5.”

All of our features offer some dose of “set it and forget it” peace of mind. We understand the power  of marketing automation, and also respect your priorities. Who wants to spend hours every week setting up their marketing campaigns? With SlickText and text marketing, you can focus on growing your business while we handle the rest.
